Title: outdoor antenna for directv - terk dtv42..?
Post by: macdaddy on March 16, 2008, 06:07:05 AM

this looks like a great solution:

has anybody here used one..? i know there are switcher boxes that i might have to use, but the way i understand it, this one antenna can be fed through all the directv boxes in the house. the reception should be better than what you get with even the fanciest of indoor antennas, right..? (i get minor occasional dropouts, and one channel is kind of tough to receive sometimes - i am hoping this would alleviate these issues, since this antenna is located outdoors, unobstructed, etc.)

thx, in advance, for any insight, input and advice.

when I was researching antennas, I really was on the page of that one, but I have heard of horror stories from people who used them, both first hand and online...a buddy said his indoor antenna actually worked better.

What I ended up buying is one of these:

and it is fantastic....really brings in every channel I expect it to and pretty easy to get setup..

looks interesting - i just dont want to drill anymore holes in my brand new roof. maybe this can mount on the dish mount itself..? (i think i have seen some mounts available for this purpose - like a permanent clamp)...

it can be done as I did it that way...only problem is a hurricane ripped through, 70 mph winds and it basically moved the whole dish mount off kilter...as the antenna is light, but can act as a bit of a sail...

where i live, hurricanes are not an issue (at least not historically - i guess anything is possible)... what mount did you use, or does the antenna come with one..?

also - can you control the amplification, or is it an all or nothing deal..?

did you have to install with a switcher box to get it to all of your tvs through the dtv boxes..?

thx for all the input (another T in 12).

I actually have a seperate coax run to my dtv box for it...to my knowledge, there is no way to multiplex the signal.

the mount that I used before I bought at radio shack...just a pole to pole mount.  Now I am using the roof mount that ships with it
