UA-5 broken toslink: which spare to buy?
« on: September 17, 2010, 03:19:33 AM »
Hi all,

My UA-5 took a hit, and the optical out jack got damaged . I had a repair shop look at it and it can't be soldered, it's cracked.

The repair guy suggested that I just move the optical-in toslink jack, since I never use the input.
But my understanding is that the functionality is different, one part is the transmitter, the other is a receiver and they aren't interchangeable. Right?

I searched the forum and found an old link to this chart:
http://www.digikey.com/Web%20Export/Supplier%20Content/Toshiba_264/PDF/Toshiba_BCE0037_catalog.pdf

Which part is the right one for me? Perhaps some of you who tinkered more with the UA-5 would know?

Any link to retailers shipping to EU would also be very much appreciated!

TIA!

The optical out jack is configured differently from the input jack, I looked at the schematic for the ua-5 and they are 2 different jacks and have different part numbers. If you call Roland/Edirol parts dept to get the jack the part # is 02236989.

Thanks a million kenirob! Edirol wants to charge me $20 for the part, no labor included  :P
Does anyone know the generic Toshiba part number? I've been looking for printed numbers on the actual unit, but there's nothing.

I narrowed it down to maybe 4-5 different transmitters that look identical, but with different specs (TOTX179, TOTX177, TOTX176...?):

Or I'll just bite the bullet and order it from Edirol.  ;D

Service manual says "GP1FA550TZ"  the "TZ" means transmitter, the input jack is the same number except it ends in "RZ" for receiver. Thats the generic #

Thanks a million for helping out. I think I'll patron Edirol this time and give credit to their aftermarket support!
