Topic: Using right-angle cables to facilitate ORTF setup?

hi guys - i am about to buy some new cables, and am considering getting right-angle connectors at the mic end to facilitate an easier ORTF setup.   i am using km184s, and when i do ORTF, the cable connectors at the rear interfere with each other, meaning i have to either elevate one mic using a spacer, or tilt one mic up/one mic down, to get a proper ORTF.  i was thinking that by using right-angle connectors, i could get them into proper ORTF without tilting or spacers.  is that correct?  anybody have a photo of that kind of setup they could post for me to see?  thanks.

I wish they made right angle xlr>xlr adapters like they have straight xlr>1/4" and xlr>rca.  They would be handy.

You will probably need a raiser for one of the mic clips.

The microphones in the picture are 200 mm long.

I don't think it's possible to get ORTF w/ the mics on the same horizontal plane w/ KM184's, even if you have right angle XLR's, though I'd be curious to know for sure.

Only way to tell is to set the mics up that way (110 deg/17cm), and measure to see how much room there is on the connector end.

I use 1" PVC pipe cut to KM184 length to play around w/ various setups rather than risk damage to the mics.

My cut-down Nakamichis are 113 mm long, the Neumann KM184 seems to be 110 mm. It should be possible to run them in ORTF configuration as long as you use a spacer for one of the mic clamps. The cables will the run nicely along the stand. I have made a drawing of my Nakamichis.

Without a spacer for one of the mic clamps, the microphone may not be longer than about 63 mm even with right-angled XLR connectors.
