Title: ADK CS-1 " Custom Shop Mics"
Post by: Swanny on June 21, 2004, 09:45:29 AM
Here's some info I got from JP about the new mics from ADK:

The're classic designs using a triode in common-cathode config. with no
feedback whatsoever; I settled on a 12AX7wa tube for high efficience
amplification. The stage is an impedance converter, but it adds a
little
voltage gain, which is very welcome to compensate for the signal loss
when
going through the output transformer.

The capsule is the wonderful BLUE BK47, BLUE's replacement for the
vintage
K47 capsule. The capsule was used in the second version of the U47 and
M49,
then the U47 FET, the super rare TLM 170 LE and finally the M149 and
M147.
If you've heard those mics... they all sound different!
So does the CS-1.

I like the BK47 so much, I made sure that you get the full range
response
from the capsule: there is no frequency tayloring in the head amp.
You get the wonderful sound of the BK47, the smooth amplification from
the
12AX7wa, and the character of the transformer.

To me, this is an unbeatable combo; and I can't think of another mic
that
sounds so natural, yet somehow always pleasing, using only a handful of
components in the signal path.

I think I am going to get a pair. They dont come out untill later this summer though...

Since they use tubes, what is the power requirement?  I assume its an AC box like most tube mics.  Problematic to power via DC/battery.

ADK website mentions "ADK Custom Shoppe" power supply...
