What happened to Reactive Sounds (maker of the Boost Box)?
« on: January 17, 2009, 05:48:19 PM »
I read up on old mic preamps like the Boost Box.

Reactive Sounds seemed to have some half-decent taper stuff, but geared towards less demanding MD users?!

It seems that went out of business late 2007:

Does anyone know the story? The owner just decided to close shop?

Maybe the success of Chris Church put them out of business. I have an old Boost Box, but despite the higher gain it is not nearly as well designed as the ST-9100 (I love that you can attenuate as well as amplify with the ST-9100). Chris Church ripped out the pain in the butt coiled output cable in my Boost Box for me and put in a 1/8 jack, but said that the quality of the amp was not exactly stellar.

AT853's (all caps)/CM-300 Franken Naks (CP-1,2,3)/JBMod Nak 700's (CP-701,702) > Tascam DR-680
Or Sonic Studios DSM-6 > M10
