Non-Prescription Glasses?
« on: December 28, 2009, 03:01:50 PM »
Anyone on the board have any suggestions where one might buy a pair of non-prescription, non-magnifying, faily inexpensive glasses in the community?  Have looked all overto no avail.  Any suggestions are welcome.

I bought reading glasses at a Walgreens and had an Eye Glass Express put non-prescript lenses in for cheap.

qft.  If you can procure cheap / free frames (thrift store, etc), just about any hour eyes type of place can put in clear lenses for pretty cheap (when I was looking around, I kept hearing $30 as the going price).

Thanks for all the info gang.  Snagged a pair of 1.00 magnifying glasses at a local store for 4 bucks.  Will call around on pricing out a lens exchange.  Thanks...

I used craokies on my glasses for years. Even though I need glasses anyway, I'd never dream of using croakies again after putting the mics inside the folded up band inside a baseball hat. Doesn't affect the sound (at least audibly) and  hides even CA-14's where nobody can see them.

Perhaps an industrial supply outfit might have something that would work - non-prescription safety glasses are pretty common.

Most drug stores carry both prescription and non-prescription.  YMMV.

I get my reading glasses at:

http://www.eyebuydirect.com/

Their prices are ridiculously cheap.  You enter in the prescription that you need, so you could put the equivalent of plain glass and you should be all set.

Slightly off topic ~~

When I got my first pair of reading glasses a few years ago, I payed $200 for them at an optical shop - and a few months later I misplaced them.  So I bought some at Walmart for $6.  The Walmart cheapos were OK, but I found out I could no longer use them because I have an astigmatism in one eye, so the prescription for each eye isn't the same.  I found this website and got decent quality reading glasses for less than $10 with a prescription that corrected for the astigmatism.  Even with shipping, two pair were less than $20.

Can't beat that with a stick.

If you are looking for cheap glasses for a coakie setup I would advise getting some black el-cheapo sunglasses and a black croakie.  I have used this setup for 8 years and have yet to get busted (knock on wood  ;) ).

It just seems more natural than reading glasses, especially if you are younger like me.

Just my 2 cents...

I can see that outside during the day but inside at a concert at night?

Indoors, outdoors, winter, you name it I have taped shows with them.  It is amazing how "ordinary" they appear to the average person at a concert.

I have personally spotted tapers at shows wearing these setups but you have to be knowing what to look for.

fyi:

My setup for the vast majority of shows that I have stealthed has been CSCs->bass roll-off->D100
