Topic: i've been out of the loop ... help me catch up

I bought my rig a couple years ago and haven't been paying attention since.

Now a friend is asking me to help him buy a decent starter rig, and I'm looking around ... things seem to have changed.

-- Is the UA5 no longer made?

-- Does Oade still sell them? I don't see them on their site.

-- Where can I buy a new JB3? I can find it on the Creative site, but not in their store. And not elsewhere on the web so far.

-- Are the Oktavas that Guitar Center is selling out of actually cheap Chinese fakes?

Edirol discontinued the UA5

Nope, once they were discontinued Oade stopped selling them. Doug will still do mods on ones previously bought from him though.

JB3s have been discontinued as well. Occasionally Creative will have refurbs available at their eBay store - but those seemed to have dried up as well.

The current $69 a mic special are definitely the Chinese fakes. Word has it once the sale's over, and the go back to full price, they'll be selling the actual Russian model.
