Not entirely related, but of the same era...

Still rocking my grandfather's Pioneer SX-780 integrated / Sansui SR-838 TT combo from the late 70s-early 80s and it still sounds grrreat.  I love those old heavy integrated amps.

Thanks for the memories Nick!

My first "real" playback system used a Kenwood KA-3500:

I got that amp I think when I was a freshman in high school, used it to drive a pair of (probably crappy) pioneer speakers

I then moved on to a Kenwood KA-109 (I think right afterwards, but maybe another amp in between):

The KA-109 was used to drive a pair of (now vintage) Polk Audio Monitor 5 speakers.  The amp is long gone, but the Polks are still sitting in my garage.  Really need to get them up on craigslist so someone can enjoy them.  They really are a quite nice "bookshelf" speaker, though quite large for bookshelfs by today's standards.

Funny Todd, I had a KA109 in college - burned in a fire, along with my vinyl, and (now vintage) Infinity RS3s (not the more recent bookshelves sharing the same name - small floorstanders).  Next up was an Adcom 535 that I had for years (and still powers my outdoor speakers).

I have that Adcom still too, and it powers my outside speakers!

I built an PAT-4, FM-5, and ST-80 early in my stereo life and kept those for ages.

Here's one that might be worth snagging:

Wait 'til the announcement of a Great-Grandchild on the horizon !       :o

Thinking about it, maybe the world is just getting younger ?
I'm mean, I'm good...  cranks up '71 GD, puts on vintage Scooby-doo with sound off, and fills a bowl with museli & soymilk           ;D

This carver isn't "all that".  I've got a lot of listening time on that amp.  John and Carl had pairs of them...which were smoked by other amps we used in our "shoot outs".

Did you like the B&K ST-140 better?
Carvin, as much as they touted "soft-clipping" seemed to go for maximum headroom.
If nothing, I found them clean and detailed...  but there was an issue with bad silicon from what I've read.
I'm thinking that any one which has lasted until now will go another 10 years.
