Title: Mastering help

Hello,
Few weeks ago me and my friend taped a show, that turned out pretty bad - So I thought, maybe it could be saved at least a little bit with some masterung help - but I have no idea what to apply.. So far, I tried applying compression on -20dB and then normalising it, and while it sounds better, I think it induced some artifacts as well. So.. I was thinking, if anyone here could give me some advice on what to do with it? Thanks..

No matter what you do with it it is a bad recording.  Get closer to the music next time.  It sounds as if something was overloaded, too.  Check your levels when you record.  We all make lousy recordings.  We just try to make fewer of them as we practice.     8)
