The Mini-mp states a range of 6-14 volts for external power supplies. Does this mean that as long as it gets a minimum of 6 volts, everything works as it should, but it is designed to handle supplies all the way up to 14 volts?

Hammer, meet nail. Right on the head. It means that the unit will function properly with a minimum voltage of 6 but not to exceed 14.
