You know how on the old cassette recorders, many of them had the pause button on the side? That's what I want on a digital recorder. Do any exist like that?
The reason is this. If I'm doing some stealthy recording, I'd really like to be able to go from rec to pause and back to rec again without have to look at the damn recorder. I've got an R09 and a Marantz 620 and you sure can't do that with either of those.
Anything new out there that might fit the bill?
Thanks!

The Sony D50 doesn't have the pause button on the side, but a very small remote control that could be an alternative solution (or a workaround, if you prefer...)

thanks for the good suggestion. in my application, however, i don't think it'll work. i'm carrying the recorder in one hand and moving it around to capture this and that. the great thing about the old style up-down slide switch is, without looking, you could tell if the recorder was paused or not. guess those days are gone forever. sigh.

the hold switch is on the side but pause is on the front buttons

Well, I guess Im SOL on this one. .... right?

well, thereĀ“s the microtrack of m-audio. It has a kind pause button on the right side. If you press the dial during recording it acts like pause.
On the other side i cannot recommend the microtrack 1 as really reliable. ::)

Most new recorders have a pretty insane record time. Why not just let it record the whole time if youre that paranoid? Just hit record before you walk in the building, put it on hold and unpause in your car after the performance.
It's not like you need to hit pause to conserve tape anymore :)

I send my "tapes" out to be transcribed, hence i try to get what i sent to a minimum, hence the need for that damn pause button.
i could go back and edit a single recording myself but that'd take too long.
waaahhhh!

my hp 120 has the play/pause on the side as well as the hold. volume is controlled by the center button.
