Title: Wavelabs autosplit question
Post by: Electric Cowgirl on October 03, 2003, 02:18:10 PM
Hey freeks-

I ran my laptop last night for Col. Bruce.  Everything turned out great.  I have one question tho.....I had the autosplit function activated, it split the file after 1.9GB like I set it to do.  When I played it back it seems like the 2nd file overlaps with the first by a few seconds......is this true??  If not what can I do to make sure that the split doesn't cause me to loose any music.  Last night the split occured during some lyrics...not something I want to miss.  Any thoughts?

Does it have to split at 1.9?  I was under the impression, maybe falsely, that using ntfs you could record longer than 2gb these days...or at least that is what I thought I read.

We might be able to use ntfs but I don't want to change the configuration of my lappy...unless my brother does it for me, and only if he thinks it's a good idea.

it overlaps yes. it starts recording file 2 before it stops file1. still, it can be a major pain in the ass to stitch them, i wish it did a clean split so you could just cut/paste.

after using autosplit once i said fuggit, i will split it myself in between songs.

I have 4.0.....I don't think it will be difficult to put the files back together, but it would be much cooler if you didn't have to fuck with it.

Cooker...why don't you do laptop anymore?

jbandtheboys....what version are you running?

it's seamless for me too, you just insert the 2nd file at the end of the first and you're good to go...that's weird

i think it has to do with your settings becky. mine does the same thing simpy's does... matches up perfectly.

You might have something selected, like "Roll back 2 secs on auto split"? donno but it could be a setting like that. play around a little.

As for the file size limit.... I believe that Yes, w/ NTFS you can have files that are >2GB.... but i think the thing is that WAVLAB prevents recording beyond 2GB.
Wavlab differs from other recording software in that if it crashes, everything up until the crash is saved. If you record in soundforge, for example, it's being stored in a temp directory and the file 'saves' when you stop it. If the program or computer crashes, you're SOL. Whereas with wavlab at least you'll have saved whatever was recorded 'so-far'.

I'm by no means an expert, so i hope this helps.

Peace,

ian, sound forge will also save the file up to the crash...i've had this happen and the file is saved.

Cool Edit Pro will save at the point of the crash as well. I know beause it happened to me at E. Rutherford Phish last Feb tour.
