Topic: DAT> SHN conversion help

Okay I got everything I need (I think) but I'm having some problems trying to transfer my first DAT.  I have a Panasonic SV-3700 and I'm running that into an Audiophile 2496 USB soundcard (via coax).  My question now is what do I use to record the DAT onto the hard drive?  Anyone want to give me a hand w/ this?

you can use a bunch of different programs

i use soundforge 6.0 myself, but alot of people here use cool edit pro and wavelab

Are there any that you can use that aren't that expensive?  Looks like the cheapest version of Sounfroge you can get is like $250.

But if people want an actual free audio program they use audacity.  Not sure if it'll do what you want though.

Well, I figured out how to go from DAT> the hard drive using CD Wave.  There shouldn't be any problem doing this, if its a striaght digital transfer, no?  I know CD Wave doesn't have all the editing features that other software does but if the DAT was recorded at 44.1 I don't have to re-sample and there really isn't anything else to do, is there?  All I really need is the ability to transfer the data to the hard drive and split the tracks.    Any other hints/tricks from some experienced users out there?

Plenty of folks use CD-Wave for their transfers - the program you record with doesn't affect the fact that it's a straight digi-transfer. I know absolutely zero about post-processing so just seed my shows exactly as they end up my hard drive and let others fool around with them afterwards if they want to...

Just got my first success.  Pretty easy.  Just need to do a little tweaking to get things just right.
