Mc Crypt DR3 - cheapo 24/48 w/ matrix ability?!
« on: August 23, 2010, 05:16:52 AM »
Hey folks, I just spotted this:
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.conrad.de%2Fce%2Fde%2Fproduct%2F304926%2FDR3-AUFNAHME-RECORDER&sl=de&tl=en

Street price EUR 111.

It records in 24/48, so perhaps it's not totally useless?!
The built quality is probably crap, but I noticed one feature which is unusual for gear in this price bracket:
"MIC & LINE: The signal is recorded from the microphone and the LINE IN (7) connection"

My interpretation is matrix recording on the spot, to two tracks.
There are 3.5mm jacks for both mic and line in, but I doubt that it's take both external signals for the matrix. One would probably have to be the internal mics.

Since Conrad usually sells OEM gear from China, expect this to show up under a bewildering number of names. Just like the recent Alesis Palm Track...

The manual was created on May 25, 2010. I guess the recorder has been out for a while?

looks like this is true, according to the manual... Is there any other recorder out there, capable of doing a marix on the fly, below the 400 EUR price range?

Yes, the Tascam DR2D.  Which writes the line and mic in to separate files, so you can do a proper job of aligning (don't forget that sound from the PA will be delayed a bit relative to the board feed unless you are very close) and mixing in post.
