Title: Rockbox: no USB-OnTheGo support for H3xx?
Post by: sunjan on March 14, 2008, 08:11:37 AM
I just got a H340 in addition to my H120, and my idea was to dump my photos on the H340 during festivals.

There is an entry from 2006 on the Rockbox site saying that USB-OTG support hasn't been developed yet:

Did the rockbox guys get it to work in the end?
Otherwise the solution is to boot into the stock Iriver firmware instead.

Here's a good thread covering all the hardware supported by the stock firmware (external card readers, cameras etc):

+T, thanks for the status update. After reading the threads over at rockbox I doubt they ever will, there is some kind of power sapping going on if the USB-OTG is activated, which shortens battery life. So from a taper's point of view, this function is a bad thing. But as long as I can dual boot, I'll be fine.

So did anyone try this in the field? I can imagine those who run a flash recorder with a small flash card (2-4GB or so) using the H3xx as a backup station for festivals.

My understanding is that you can plug in most USB card readers, and they will take the power from the H3xx, so no need for any external power source for the transfer. Right?
