I have made an offer on 2 Rogue 88s in the past 2 days, anyone have one? good/bad/details? I used to listen to mike falcon's. he was running lucid dac>rogue 88>B&W cdm7se (i think se, may have been nt). Such a powerful amp. Anyone owned both a rogue and a mcintosh or heard both? I plan on keeping both for now, if I grab one.

haven't heard the rogue. but heard its a very "blunt" sound.
Mc's, i've heard a couple solid state amps. very, very nice. musical...soft when needed , bright and flashy when called for..., juicy almost.

if I go back to tubes, they will need to be enclosed, my 18 month old would love to touch a blue lit bulb in the den

I've got a Rogue Stereo 90 that I love. Its the replacement for the 88, and I think you can even upgrade the 88 to a 90 by sending it back to Rogue for some work. I love it, great imaging, non-fatiguing, and more power than I need.
I think it provides the blooming mids that tubes are known for, while still keeping much of the bass punch that many tube amps lack. When I bought it a few years back, I did side by side comparisons with several tube amps (including quicksilver, CJ) and the Rogue won out because it had the tube warmth while retaining the bottom end.
Big changes in sound can be made by tube rolling to your tastes as well.

Pretty sure Stagger is running a Rogue 88 at home, might want to ping him & get his thoughts.

Yep I've had one for a few years now. It is a great amp, especially if you are getting into tubes for the first time. Reason being that you can run EL34s, 6550s, or KT88s in either triode or ultralinear. I agree that in triode mode it is think and kind of mushy, even more so with lower output tubes. On the other hand, the way I run it (KT88s in ultralinear) it is pretty darn fast and musical with plenty of juice to power my SF's (91db/w/m, 6ohm nominal) to levels that you don't want to hear but with no strain at all. So I like it. As I have posted in other threads I'm now selling high end 2ch via mail order for a living but I'm trying to keep that off regular threads so if you want any advice on the Rogue or anything else I may have some knowledge of, *PM ME* and I'll let you know how we can talk off list. Again no sales pressure at all...I'm not commission anymore ;D ... just do my best to guide ya with what I have heard myself.
