I've been browsing older threads regarding the 853s and CA 11s, but not much in direct comparisons. I'm considering getting the CA 11s as everyone seems to love them, and in one thread a poster or two stated that they liked the results better with the CA 11s over the 853s. Would it be considered an "upgrade" to go from the 853s to the 11s? Would it be worth it or would it be more of a lateral move? I'm satisfied with my 853s, but would buy the CA 11s if the "sonics" are much better. Input from anyone who has used both in the past would be great, thanks in advance!

To get any serious upgrade from what you have you are going to need to spend some serious $ ,Shoeps,DPA (argueably) ect. In my opinion, the CAs would be more of a lateral move, again that's just my opinion.
Get whatever sounds best to you, otherwise you will definitely not be satisfied and will be looking to "upgrade" again soon.
Happy hunting.

Then I wouldn't move to another pair of mics if you are satisfied with the 853s. If you are still curious, perhaps someone can loan you a pair of the CA 11's to try out.
