Ok I have the MK4's but am about to pull the trigger on the 41's, the catch is i need to sell the 4's to finance the 41's. So is this the right move? Are the 41's going to be more versitile for me, i mainly record smaller venues with the occasional arena.

I run my 4V's way more than I do my 41's.. I love the 41's at sheds from crummy locations.. but in small to medium size venues - with loud music - I always like my 4Vs better than the 41s.. Do you feel like you are getting too much crowd noise or are you looking for a different sound - If its the sound - maybe the 4Vs will give you more of what you are looking for..

Well have had some crowd noise but seems like everyone who sells the 4's is because they are always running the 41's and never go back

I'd recommend borrowing a pair of 41's and run them a few times in your typical venues to get a feel.
41's are more directional thus less crowd noise to the sides but do not eleminate crowd noise.
41's roll off sooner on the low end than 4's so this affects the sound as well
41's have a slight pickup behind them vs 4's
You typically will run 41's closer together than 4's due to the narrowness of the pattern (i.e. DINa)
IMO - there are times to run 4's and there are times to run 41's and in general 4's are more versitle; I have made great tapes with both.

I'd keep the MK4's if I were you. They're more versatile.
Don't get me wrong - I love my MK41's . . . you can't beat them in big arena shows.
But you say you record mostly in smaller venues.
Consider the MK41's when they can be an addition to your gear, not a substitution.

I'm not a Schoeps user, but it seems to me that the above is pretty sound advice. Versatilty is the biggest reason why the cardiod is the first pattern most people buy when they start their mic arsenal.

Yep, any way you can get your hands on more schoeps gear, then do it, but not at the expense of your other schoeps gear! I made the mistake of selling my mk21s! For what? To finance my trip to the US back in Nov! To get more useless US$ in my Seattle checking account??
Do not sell the 4s, they are gonna be your most versatile cap.

Hey guys and girls thanks for the info and advice, i'll keep scraping to save for the 41's then and keep the 4's, they are very forginving for the most part

mk-41's all the way.
i think they work great in any situation.
i like 17 cm @ 90*.

Bro, I have to laugh as you sold me the MK4's. ;) I just picked up an LSD-2 off ebay for the cheap and am going to get it modded.
I'd keep the 4's. The best tapes I have pulled have been with made with MK4's. I did get a few good ones at Red Rocks with some MK21's but that was only 2 in more that 30.
