I saw these over on ebay, and was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with them? I am thinking of placing a bid on these. I can't find any samples on archive. Does anyone know if they use the same parts as say the LD 40XX series mics? Thanks in advance.

I bought one to listen to. Very impressed with this mic. Never got around to buying another one due to a change of plans. Definitely worth a try. Seller is in the Syracuse, NY, though I don't know him at all.

So would this be a good mic to use to tape shows? From what I have read, it looks like it would be suitable, but some places say that it is more of a dynamic type of instrument mic.

Its a condensor. Relatively flat freq chart except for the bump near 10k, which is typical on most mics. I'd give it a shot on specs alone. Heck, I record with the AT3031 and have been impressed with its sound. And its considered a lower-end mic to the AE5100.

Thank you Spyder. I think I may give these a shot. If I go through with the bidding, I will post some samples after I give 'em a run.

As far as other relatively unknown AT mics go, I love my ATM-450s (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ATM450). I think AT makes great mics overall and some of the best in the low-cost range.
I need to get my UA-5 to Busman, as these are quite warm and I think would pair really well with his transparent-type mod.

Its quite possible that Audio Technica have been under-reporting specs (http://bioacoustics.cse.unsw.edu.au/archives/html/naturerecordists/2005-11/msg00182.html) on the AT3031 & 3032. Understanding that it doesn't look good when your cheaper mics look as good or better on paper than your more expensive models.

I'm using Beyerdynamic now, so I don't think I'll try these, but it would be nice to have a comparison between AT mid-range mics and Studio Projects C4, for example. I wouldn't be surprised if all these AT mics (3031, ATM450, etc) all use the same (electret) elements. Maybe even the same one in the AT4033. If so, that is a pretty good capsule.
I'm amazed at how good the SP C4's sound, though. These are a tough mic to beat!

Richard, I agree with you about the C4s sounding excellent in their price range.
But I have always heard a very characteristic harshness to their overall sound when there's much distance from the source. I am pretty sure I've heard/seen others bothered by this sort of sound as well.
Up close I think they sound great, but that's not particularly well-suited to the types of recording I find myself doing.
If anyone is interested, I'm happy to offer up my pair for a comp, or to do one here (acoustic guitar) if anyone would like to offer the C4s.
