hello...my very first post.
I have a question about phantom power.
I'm running JW MOD AKG 461 and recording with a PMD671.
Would there ever be an occasion or necessity to run the mics
into an external power supply before running them into the 671?
or is running the mics direct using the -20db pad THE way to go?
thanks for any help! ;D

I'm a little confused by the question, but I think the answer is that the 671 can supply phantom power, so use it. You could add an outboard power supply like a Denecke PS/2 to handle the phantom power, but there really isn't an advantage, and it's just another piece of gear to deal with. So I would say, running right into the 671 is THE way to go.
Whether you need the 20db pad, is a separate issue.

I too use a 671 and phantom power to power my c-4's....mics tend to use up your internal batteries, so try and use an external power source a long with your internal batteries and you'll be all set. ;D
