Title: looking for right angle toslink to mini optical cable
Post by: Swampy on April 06, 2008, 02:53:32 PM
So I'm sick of adapters and crappy cables that break. Does anyone know where I can find a sturdy RA toslink > mini optical cable? A RA connector on the mini side would be cool too, but I don't know if they even make those...

try sound professionals.  I had a really nice one (ra on both ends) I got there a few years ago.

Hmm, don't see RA toslink > mini on there. I guess these cables are becoming harder and harder to find. If I do find one I'm going to buy a stockpile! I just want to take all adapters out of my signal chain...

Swampy,
You are on a grail quest, as these cables are very hard to come by.

Your best bet may be an ISO thread in the yard sale (I ended up scoring one from a TS member).

Good luck!

Haha, thats what it seems like. I guess my best bet is to put up an ISO or just get a solid straight toslink to mini cable...

I just gave it one hell of a search.  There are mini->mini right angles, but not mini->toslink right angles.   SoundPros did have them, google had it indexed, but they no longer carry them...  You might want to email Chris at Soundpros and see if they still can get them from the distributor....

That's actually a RA mini > RA mini. MCM used to carry the RA TOS > RA mini but alot of TS ers bought those and cleaned them out. Last time I asked the folks at customer service, they said if they got enough interest they might have some more made; minimum production run was 100 units. Don't know if they have had enough interest yet. It was 2-3 years ago when I last asked.

Did they give a quote for 100?

This JB3 just won't seem to die.

It's been so long ago that if they did, I don't recall what it was.

The part number for the last one I got from them, a 2 meter, is 24-4355 but last time I tried that number it was no longer on file. That was over two years ago so it may or may not be a good number currently. I can't find the invoice (filed away in one years tax stuff and I don't recall what year) but I do recall that was the last RA TOS > RA mini of any length they had n stock at the time but they had at least one more run of 1 meters made cause several folks here bought multiple cables when they became available again.

I know what you mean about the JB3s not dieing. Just transferred the contents of three to a new hard-drive earlier this week. I must say of all the software interfaces I've used, the gnomad2 in Linux is the best.

< a search here revealed I got the cable in June 05 and according to this thread http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,42369.0/all.html MCM's part numbers were 24-6475 for the 1 meter cable and the two meter is listed earlier in this post. If you need one of these cables, call MCM and let them know there is still a demand for them. It might be enough for them to have more made. >
