Title: Sonosax SX-R4
Post by: boojum on April 24, 2008, 01:34:49 PM
For those with fat wallets, the Sonosax SX-R4 has progressed from a bad drawing to an actual item.  It looks quite good and is a little different from the drawing.  Deliveries start in Mid-May, right around the time the 788T starts deliveries.  Could this be a coincidence?  Attached if the PDF from Sonosax with the photo.

did anyone else notice this in the pdf file:

SX-M2 Stereo Mic Premap Discontinued from March 2008 – no more in stock - still supported
that's a bummer for us. A great pre for open or ste@lth is no longer on the market.

Saw that, and glad I got my LemoSax in January, right under the wire.

Sexy, swank, and on the street, if you're in the Beta test

Why do I think that I won't be able to afford it?     ???

$4,500 USD       :hmmm:    Not too shabby for an eight track machine with four preamps built in....

I bet that it sounds great      :D

Downside of this fine machine is at USD5571 it is competing with the SD788T at USD5995.  The 788T is 8 tracks in and 8 tracks out.  If you can live with 48KHz sampling rate for the present it seems a better deal.  They are both lovely machines.

I think it depends on what you are doing. If you look at the front of this unit, you'll notice the knobs on the front. That means you can use this machine as both a mixer and recorder. Now for most music recording things this isn't a huge deal, but that's not the market they are going after. They want the ENG market where things are used over-the-shoulder and in a bag. This is where the SD  products really don't work very well because you have such a hard time adjusting them on-the-fly.

the sonosax is recorder only ,without any mixing capabilities except the compact flash summing .
6 analog inputs with only 4 preamps , not eng , not anything for normal film work
good as track recorder for digital mixer or add  one to another eng mixer  or  sfx recording
not even close to sd 788 which can work as normal eng mixer .

and both really fur away from what i and you have :-)
