Title: What if ....... (Oade M148 Charging question)
Post by: nickb on June 01, 2008, 09:28:53 PM
I accidentally left my power on while charging my M148 overnight?

I usually always check this but I just picked it up to put back in my bag, I saw that the switch was set to "on" and no lights are on.  Press the power check button and obviously no lights either.

Can I just plug it back in and let it fully charge again?  Will this potentially screw with my battery holding a charge?

I've had some issues already with the levels fading but I have wrote that off as not having it fully charged at the time of recording.

Should I just go ahead and send this to Doug to get the batts repaced?

From what I remember that is a BIG no no. (having power on while charging)

It couldn't hurt to turn it off & charge it all night. Just see how it goes. I'm sure someone else will chime in. Good Luck!

OK, charged over night and just did a quick test to see if it would show some sign of life when I unplugged the ac and flipped the switch.

I have lights, which is a good thing, I hope.

Can anyone tell me what internal issues I may have caused besides killing my batts?

IIRC, everything will function fine, but your battery life will not be anywhere near as long as it was (re: more frequent recharges).  Give Doug a shout to confirm.

so, what ever happened here? is your 148 functioning fine now, ie battery life as good as it was?
the battery life is a big bonus, aside from the great sound you get, I've run mine for almost 14 hours.

i'm curious too.   i accidentally left mine on last night after a hastey breakdown and this am it still had both lights.   batteries are only a few months old though.

Well, got a an email back from Doug to charge it for the max 2 days (i explained to him how old the current batts were, etc) and try to let some of the weaker cells get good and charged.

That seemed to work... at least for the three sets I recorded at BamaJam, anyway.

Probably a little over 4 hours of record time on Saturday with no apparent issues.  Actually had less issues with the channels fading than I've ever had.

Still not sure how long beyond 4 hours she'll run but this weekend I'll run a test to check on the big picture....
