Title: What gear are you currently eyeing / lusting after?
Post by: som on June 10, 2008, 09:31:31 AM
I'm sure everyone on this forum is constantly browsing and researching and planning the next upgrade, building the wish list. What's caught your eye lately?

Here's what's on my list....

Cambridge Audio 640p phono preamp
Dynavector 10X5 Cartridge
Hornshoppe Cube
Better interconnects (I have whatever came in the box or was laying around)

Just heard about the Glow amp, sounds interesting.... http://www.glow-audio.com/glowstuff.html

Would love to try the Transcendant Sound stuff, if I could afford it....someday....

I'm not looking at any specific brands or models, but I'd really like to upgrade to floorstanding speakers and I gotta admit, I'm really curious to try electrostatic speakers.

However, I definitely want to upgrade from my 11 year old receiver to something newer from audiogon as well as upgrading my source to an oppo player.

Squeezebox Duet + New Desktop.  My old one is slowly dying and will be used to feed the Squeezebox.

Modwright SWL9.0 SE
Ridge Street Audio Poiema speaker cables
New phono pre
Bolder Statement modded SB3 w/ linear power supply (after getting Duet I'm hooked!)

The system overhaul is nearly complete....

That glow amp looks pretty cool! If it had multiple inputs (RCA), I may have tried that instead of my Jolida 102B. The single input was the deal breaker for the Sophia Electric Baby too.

I'd love a Rega P1 turntable and Cambridge Audio 640p phono preamp. But, we're saving for an international adoption, and I can't see myself having records around with small children. That's how many of my dad's records were broken!

Heard these at AKfest and understand why you are after them.  The local dealer is about 1/2 mile from my house.  They sound great!

I have 6 kids and have owned and played records since we brought the first one home from the hospital (well, before that, even!). Don't let that stop you. You deserve the sounds, and your kid deserves a cool dad who spins vinyl!

+T for the adoption.  (Which no doubt makes it all worthwhile.)  :-)

Def get records, one of my fondest memories from growing up was raiding dad's record collection and him teaching me about people like Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, and Jimi Hendrix.

I'm lusting after a really nice phono preamp, and an HDTV to replace my 13" tube tv.

I've wanted to upgrade my old Legacy Audio Signature III's to Legacy Focus for years. Alas, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new pair of Focus HD.

Life is good...for now. I suppose I'm interested in a high-end 24/96 DVD-A player next. I currently run a Denon 2200 (not so often) or a Denon 2900. I'd love to hear recommendations for suggested upgrades. Any advice?

I am going to buy some Ultimate Ears triple fi 10 pro. And perhaps a small portable headphone amp.

I'm actually quite happy with my set up right now.  I would like some nicer speakers for my tv/cd listening setup.  Maybe a decent set of headphones would be nice too but only because I don't have any.

"Im all set"
:)

at the moment.
I do want to find a Perpetual Technologis P1 "digital correction engine".  its like the monarchy DIP, but but works very well in front of the PT p3 DAC I am running (and enjoying).

I need record cleaning supplies.

I am happy with my recording rig but I will be picking up a Panasonic 50" VIERA Plasma (TH-50PZ800U). I also a Blu-ray Disc Player by the end of the summer.

Squeezebox or dennon 2900 to play back 24 bit
Nak mod actives w/ omni caps to run lowpro and maybe do 3 mic mix w/ R4
Smaller recorder to stealth Nak activies like R9

Above all right now I must get wet again and buy a surfboard and wetsuit after surfing my whole life and stopping for the last ten years to give my ears a semi brake ;D (Not much of a break w/ all the loud shows I go to).
Peace

More or less by chance I came across ADAM A7 nerfield monotors and I just had to get them! 3D like stereo and shimmering highs. They were meant for PC editing station but ended up to be my main stereo speakers (with Genelec 7071 sub). VERY content I am now (about $1000 for truly splendid active speakers is peanuts), only thinking about their bigger brother S2.5A (about $3000) to replace them and to be able to return the A7:s to my Mac...
