I'm trying something new, kinda a mono-matrix I guess you could call it. (I'm sure I'm not the first)
I plugged one Avatone CK-1 Omni into the right channel of the HD-P2. I hung the mic above the stage just a hair behind the mains in the center (see pic)

I plugged the main out from the soundboard into the left channel. That only had vocals, kick, & mandolin.
Just playing it as is sounds much better than I anticipated. Just wondering what some of you all would do with this source?
Thanks
Alex
Personally I hate fake Stereo allot, so I would keep it mono and mess with the percentages for hours.
I second that. Get the ratio btwn the overhead and the sbd feed, then mix to 2 channel mono.
I would be inclined to try and make two channels of each, pan them as you see fit and then matrix them. But thats just me.
Well I split the two stereo tracks into two mono tracks messed with the levels some and bounced it.
I'm pretty happy with the results. If anybody is curious I just seeded it

I can see myself doing this more as it's simple and sounds good. Ts all around for the advice!
It turned out pretty good to my ears. It proves that experimenting is not a bad thing.
I did this once when one channel of my mics crapped out. I had 2 mics + 2 sbd (mono) into my R4. I just mixed the one mic with the soundboard. I think I mixed most (or all?) sbd to one channel, mic to the other. It turned out pretty good.
Other people have told me they do this when they only have a two track recorder.

I would consider not mixing it at all. Circulate it as-is and leave the post-processing "as an exercise for the students!" >:D
That's a good idea. Make sure the tracks are synced and cut as one file and let others experiment. I would import into Vegas and play around with panning the channels. However, it is Alex's recording so if that's not what he doesn't want people changing what he did I would understand.

I'll post the original 24/44 wavs if you all want to play around with it. I don't want to chop it up what would be the best way to get it somebody besided seeding via a torrent?
