My Flac icons for Flac files are displaying as NeroMediaPlayer media files. I've removed Nero Media Player from my computer, reinstalled Flac Frontend and Trader's Little Helper but the files still display the wrong icons. I'm using Windows XP. How do I get the Flac files to display the icons as Flac icons?

I don't use XP but it should be similar to W2K where it's:
Open Windows Explorer, click
Tools, scroll to
Folder Options when there click the
FIle Types tab, scroll down and click
Advanced, first box should be
Change Icon, click that to see what options are available, if you don't like those offered, search for *.ico or *.icon files (or click the browse button) and enter the path to the icon you want.

No luck yet.
Windows Explorer
Tools
Folder Options
File Types Tabs
Scrolled down to FLA and FLAC
Details for 'FLA' extension
Opens with Flac Frontend
You have customized files with extension 'FLA'. To restore these files to their default type (NeroMediaPlayer media files), click Restore.
Details for 'FLAC' extension
Opens with Flac Frontend

Am I on the right track?

down to this point W2K is the same as XP. In 2K there is a "Change" button to the right of "Opens with", below that there is an "Advanced" button which allows you to make some other changes, the first of which is changing the icon. I don't have access to an XP box so some one else will have to take over from here but it sounds like you are on the right track. Only other suggestion would be to check Windows Help files to see if they list how to change a file's associated icon. Good Luck.

After googling, one of these may help:

Here is what I did today:
Uninstalled Nero and all of it's components.
Uninstalled Flac Frontend
Uninstalled Foobar
Uninstalled Trader's Little Helper
Reinstalled Nero
Reinstalled Flac Frontend
Reinstalled Foobar
Reinstalled Trader's Little Helper
Changed the Flac file icons from NeroMediaPlayer media files to display as their appropriate Flac icons
Only problem now is that the files are still listed as NeroMediaPlayer media files (I didn't even reinstall the Nero Media Player). How do I change them to list the appropriate type of file: Flac?

Like flipp said you are/were on the right track...to get rid of it saying neromediaplayer, when you're in folder options go to where you changed the icon, it is in the advanced tab...
If yours still says restore, hit restore, the advanced tab will show up in it's place. Then make sure the icon is still what you want, right next to the preview icon it should say neromediaplayer(for you, mine actually said neromixfiles)...it allows you to type in whatever you want it to read, I just typed 'FLAC', but you could type FLAC Frontend if you choose, or whatever for that matter.
That is now what it will read under the file along with the file size. After that is done now you can change what program "opens with" those files(and the restore tab will return).
Hopefully that does it for you, I had the same thing going on and I'm glad to get rid of the nero icons.

Windows has set the default to deal with that file type to the last program that was loaded. to correct this, right click the offending icon... choose "open with" (nero will be as default) from the list choose the program you want to process flacs. remember to check the box that says " always use the selected program to open this kind of file" Hit OK all that type of file will be opened by the program you choose. (and your Icons will be what you want)

hmmm, weird. I had something similar happen to me. I installed "Traders Little Helper" a few weks back, and now my flac files show as "Monkeys Audio" files ??? I uninstalled TLH and Flac Frontend, but to no avail. I know they are flacs, and thats all that matters to me, but if someone could help me out, I'd be much oblidged :(
