Title: MR1 format choice question
Post by: waltmon on June 17, 2008, 03:43:17 PM
Am I better off running the MR1 in 24 bit or should I go with DSD?   What do you use to convert the DSD format to WAV format?

recording 24bit vs dsd is a personal preference depending on your playback id imagine. the included software audiogate or whatever converts dsd>pcm.

I would say that the choice between 24 bit and DSD is very personal if the issue is quality. Try, test and trust your ears.
If the issue is the amount of disk space or the quality of a master tape... it's easier.

I record all shows in DFF at the highest quality setting 1 bit/2.8
Audiogate software does a great job of downsampling to 16 or 24 bit wav.

For playback, Audiogate will downsample on the fly to the settings on your computer
mine is set for 24/96. So when i play a DFF file in Audiogate on my macintosh, it sounds pretty good.

Some day we will be able to play and burn DSD files, so why not archive at the highest quality?
