Title: fig 8 question...
Post by: loud noises on June 18, 2008, 10:56:40 PM
I searched the board and found a bunch of conversation.
However, I'm out the door in 20 minutes so I'll run down
the situation...

I have the busman k-series mics.  I have never run the fig-8patterns but want to.
Do the markings on the caps have to be aligned in a certain way? I will clamp
backwards from a pole right in front of the stage. Will probably get about 2 feet
off the stage. Is fig-8 a good idea from there? What height should I use?  If the
guitarist is the the only one with an on-stage amp, should I aim it away from him?

Thanks in advance!

The BSC1 series won't do fig8s, from busman, only the BA-l2 and BSCS-L will according to his site.

If your on stage, omni or super-card are my initial inclinations. good luck.

oh you are right. I guess I'm confusing the hypers
with the fig-8. Are hypers worth using close to the
stage?

organ and bass going through the pa's above.
drums right-front, guitar amp left-front...

For Blumlein run the 8's pointed 90 coincident of each other and put center of the two 8's center of the sound source.  The caps need to be exactly on top of each other.

See

Could run one mic Card/Sub Card and one Fig-8 for M/S

Both Blumlein and M/S sound great on stage lip.

I guess I want to know if I have to match the markings on the hyper-caps a certain way.
Or whether it doesn't matter where the marking match up, just that the caps are stacked
on top each other and creating a 90degree void in the middle...

One Cap should point right 45 deg of center of sound source and the other should point left 45 deg of center of sound source.

Running Hypers or Cards in this fashion is considered X/Y.

Too late, prolly, but hypers have only limited use as you get close to the stage for a stereo recording.  Definitely not good for on stage unless it's a duo sitting close together or something.  I'd stay off stage and run 'em at close to an AB pattern with a little spread.  Better off using omnis or subcards if you're on stage...
