Trial run w/ the R09 tonight. Was going to just go into the Batt. Box>R09 but don't see why I can't replace it w/ my UA-5. If so, the batt from the UA-5 would support the mics right?? Wrong? Would I still need the Batt. Box? Am I that retarded?

so long as you have the phantom adapters, you should not have a problem running the 853s > ua-5 > r-09... other than the fact the ua-5 does not have pass through.
you are techincally going to have the ua-5 go a>d and then d>a to output to the r-09 and then have the r-09 do another a>d step.

Your not retarded :) You need a voltage source for your mics of 5-12 volts max for your mics your UA-5 provides 48 volts of phantom power unless you have AT adaptors to adapt your mics to XLR with these adaptors * that provide the proper 10 volts * for your mic to operate you will not be able to use the mics you have directly with your UA-5

The 853 runs nicely through the CA-9100 preamp. Should give it a try, makes it easier to adjust gain on the fly.

Thanks guys, kept it simple & the "tape" sounds great considering it was a bar band. I'm amazed at how easy & effective the R09 is. Doesn't drain batteries, almost 4 hours of record time on a 4 gig card, small, stealthy, just amazing really. Wow, the 21st Century, who'd of thunk it? ;)
