Title: 24 bit output from wavelab

I am trying to get 24 bit output from wavelab 6.1. I thought i was putting out 24 bit until i decided to test it, and my tascam da20 mkII recognizes the signal, which it shouldn't be able to do if its 24 bit, correct? Where is the signal being coverted to 16 bit, and how do i stop it? I have an audiophile 192 soundcard with the spdif connection as the output. I also tried the ASIO router with the same results. SPDIF can carry up to 24-bits. The dat machine will be truncating the 24-bit values to 16-bits for storage on the tape.

When going from the soundcard to the dat, you will want to set the dither in Wavelab so that it dithers at the 16-bit level.

Likely your soundcard is outputing 24-bits unless you are shortening the word length in a software application.

Thanks for the info. I won't be sending any actual data to the dat. I just thought the dat wouldn't recognize the signal if it was 24 bits, so i was using it as a test for 24 bit output. Wavelab was saying it was 24 bits, so it probably was being truncated by the dat.
