Title: Sonosax Mini R82
Post by: sgordo on July 02, 2008, 01:28:04 PM
Anyone have one of these?

Are there any sound samples on the web?

In the market for some new gear and this definitely looks like it might fit my needs (aside from the price maybe) :)

Any info would be much appreciated.

I've been using it since it came out more than a year and a half ago.  There are several threads here with some of my experiences and also other users'.  Overall, I'd say it was the most reliable deck I've used (Sony M1 DAT, Edirol R-01, Sony D-1) in having less equipment or operator error, though there were some issues, and these required shipment back to Switzerland to fix.  Mostly I use it with DPA 4060s and a DPA MMA6000 preamp into the line-in, but I've also done mic-in with Sanken CO tiny mics, with real mics and phantom power, but I've only played around with the digital-in.

If you get one, make sure it's upgraded to the latest firmware with the programming fix to enable tc, that has to be done in Switzerland.

Awesome!  Thanks Jeff.

Do you have any recordings you've made with the internal preamp?  I would love to hear how it sounds compared to other Sonosax preamps.  Seems like it might be a nice option to run behind my Schoeps.

I just moved my office and my recordings are, well, "disorganized" is a kind and altogether too mild way to put it.  I'll hunt around after the holiday to see if I can find some things done without external preamp and send you a CD.  (I can't upload from work and for the moment at home have dial-up, which is not a satisfactory way to share audio!).
