Sounds like a power issue.
Check all the fuses first and foremost.
What speakers are you running? Could have maybe overdrawn the load on the receiver/output to speakers.
google: Sony Code 11, you'll find some threads referring to other models of the sony which have had this problem.

from the manual:
PROTECTOR/CHECK CODE 11
Irregular current is output from the speakers. Turn
off the receiver, check the speaker connection and
turn on the power again.
from somewhere deep in Sony's website
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the word PROTECT or PROTECTOR is flashing on the A/V receivers display:
1. Check the speaker wires and speakers* for proper connections.
2. Reduce the volume level.
IMPORTANT: If the receiver is played back at maximum volume level it may enter the protect mode. Maximum volume listening
will cause the receiver to run very hot and may drain the output capacitors.
3. Disable the surround sound option if both the A and B speakers are being used simultaneously.
4. Ensure the top of the receiver has proper ventilation to keep it from overheating.
5. If the message only occurs when using a DVD player, the sampling frequency may be set too high.
IMPORTANT: Some receivers provide compatibility with the higher sampling frequencies through alternate connections.
Consult the owners manual for specific information.
6. Unplug the AC power cord for about 1 to 2 hours to reset the output transformers.
*Follow the steps below to troubleshoot for faulty speaker wires and connections.
1. Turn off the stereo receiver.
2. Disconnect all of the speaker wires from the rear of the stereo receiver.
3. Turn on the stereo receiver.
NOTE: If the stereo receiver displays an error (PROTECT) or does not turn on, then service will be required. Otherwise, continue troubleshooting with the following steps.
4. Turn off the stereo receiver.
5. Check the impedance rating of the speakers.
IMPORTANT: Sony® stereo receivers are not compatible with speakers rated below 4 ohms.
6. Ensure the Impedance Selector Switch [FIG. 1] on the rear of the stereo receiver is set to match the ohm rating of the speakers.
IMPORTANT: The Impedance Selector Switch may not be available on all stereo receiver models. Consult the instruction manual for impedance specifications.
7. Connect the front left and right A speakers.
8. Turn on the stereo receiver.
NOTES:
* If the stereo receiver displays an error or does not turn on, examine the speaker wires for shorts or frayed shielding and replace if necessary.
* If the stereo receiver turns on without displaying any errors, then continue connecting any additional speakers.

hopefully this does the trick.

I had this problem and it ended up being some blown fuses in the receiver. Find an authorized repair outlet and they can fix it. Warranty on those things is 5 years...you should be able to get it done under warranty

I tried powering back up this morning...still same code. I guess I'll have to find a service center.
I can't win for losing :(

I'm on the phone (on hold) right now with a service center here in Memphis. Hopefully they can do it cheap.

fwiw...i have all sony es home stereo equipment including DAT. several years ago i had the same experience...plug everything in and pop...status 11 on DAT - Sony ES DTC-1000ES. i hate to say it but mine also was a stupid mistake. took it to Doug from whom I purchased and the diagnosis was not good. he actually ordered the part from Sony and repaired it but it was costly...$275.
