So I have the big-boy tripod for outdoor shows / large venues.. but what about the small intimate shows that have me sitting at a coffee-shop table? or dining room table? I have been in living room / etc shows that it is just not feasible to have the big 7' tripod stand. there just is no room!
So I was thinking of a 'mini-stand' ... like for drum-mics?
Or an even better solution: I have a sturdy 'mini-tripod' for my camera. It would do the trick, the only thing I need is a way to go from the male threads on the nub on the tripod (the part that screws into the bottom of your camera) and get some distance to it (a female / female or female / male brass irrigation pipe nipple perhaps?)
the reason being that my mic-holder has a 'tension screw' and a female hole ... (it basically goes on top of the smooth male metal 'tip' at the top of my stand and I tension screw it tight...
any specific suggestions? I might just go to home depot with my camera tripod and screw somethings on and see what works...

I use a basic mic stand with a boom
it has a smaller base than a tripod
and the boom gives it more height if needed

that's way too much weight to be carrying around i'd say. you would actually place that regular mic-stand on a table-top?

I have something very similar to the Atlas DS-7E on page one. Works well on a table top or on stage lip. The On Stage stands on page 4 look identical to the Atlas for a little less and were the cheapest I saw with a quick scan.
Lots of fairly inexpensive options besides adapters for the tripod you have.

absolutely!... I've been doing that for years at clubs where I use a table
it takes up very little room on the table and is less like to get knocked off like a tripod could
since the gig is in a club I park close by and carry everything in
I have 2 different sized Bogen light stands for everything else along with C clamps
Edit:
those table top stands don't look like they have much height to them

For running mics off of a table I use one of these http://www.adorama.com/MT429499.html (http://www.adorama.com/MT429499.html) with a Manfrotto super-clamp.
If you need more height, you can couple two of them together.
Very sturdy and compact.
Edit to add: The same set up comes in handy for clamping off of something horizontally too.

If you need more heighth, grab a flex extension or two and screw them together but anything over a couple feet will make the stand somewhat unstable because it will be top heavy unless running mini-mics.

I have mini-mics (at831's) with the 'octopus' two arms coming out. it doesn't weigh much at all..
I like the two Atlas DS table-top options. while it doesn't provide much height, i've never needed it at the sit-down coffe house table top shows i'm thinking of..

Only used it once, but it worked like a charm.
Just be sure to keep plenty of slack in your cables.
The base is heavy, but not that wide.
Naturally, you can unscrew the post.
It fits right in my small recording kit case.
and that gives you options for changing mounts later too.

How much height do you need? I always loved the super clamp (or the bigger jaw Bogen C-clamp) + HD flex arm combination.

I made a stand using a couple of pipe fittings and a cheap Walmart monopod turned upside down. I took a 2" pipe flange and screwed in a 2" plug then drilled and tapped a 1/4X20 hole in the plug. The monopod screws into that. The hardest part is that you have to remove the spike/foot from the bottom of the monopod and rig a proper sized threaded stud as a replacement. I just used a 1/4X20 stud because when I made the rig it was for my H2. I've since made a rig that screws onto that stud to mount my CA-11 mics (http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,101340.15.html). Its all very portable and not too heavy. It has worked great set up on a table or bar. I haven't tried it with anything other than small mics yet, but bigger mics could be attached using a clamp.

I know that may look like a lot of money but its a one time buy, like your microphones. Its a great investment.
