Title: DAC chips (DIY stuff)
Post by: Nick's Picks on July 14, 2008, 04:18:20 PM
For you techier-than-thou types that I wish I was....

looking into building my own DAC.
wondering about the following chips or PCB/chip combos:

PCM1704U : pretty standard as the "high end" TI/BB chip, right ?  I know I see that part listed a lot.  $30 for the chip.
PCM1794ADB: stereo (so the others are mono chips I assume?)
PCM1792ADB
PCM2704DB
PCM2705DB  : both of these offer USB input and are PCB/chip combo deals, but they are $5.

my plan is to build a "cost no object" ...., well...in theory...., battery operated 24bit DAC.

theres a yahoo group of people who mod the maudio superdac. im sure you could get some feedback there

i beleive there is also a kit out there that lets you swap dac chips to hear the flavors as well, but it sounds like youve been there already.

why dont you build me an ultra-mini adc to complement the schoeps cmrs >  church ugly preamp combo :)
