I don't post too much here but am reading a lot and it surprises me everytime how much knowledge is around here! Big up for yaselves! Love this place! So...I wanted to share my piece as well.
Recently I picked up a H2 as backup rig for festivals. What I needed was something less bulky (as the AD20/JB3 combo) for places I know they do a stripsearch.
First fieldtest was july 4th and have some samples for you guys as I keep on reading that this thingy doesn't work well with externals...well.. here is to prove you otherwise ;D
I used none of the internal functions of the H2 (rec level 100), lineage is below and I recorded it at 24/48
Position was around the right stacks 3-5m away, mics just below my ears in the top of my jacket.
3 samples:
First the opener Lady K-Wida & Poor Man Friend

o yeah....no edit after the fact other then amped it up to -1 dB ...

Sounds good! Any Bat box or low filter used or just staight to line in?
WRT poor external results, thats just the external MIC in but if you got a hot enuf signal for LINE in most have good results. :)

Tnx :)
and yes running a HPF for sure. Running -3dB at 88Hz and a 10 dB pad before line in. Would never use mic on it indeed ;)

Its the external mic jack that people complain about being noisy, not the line-in. I run Church-Audio CA-11s (card or omni, depending)>CA9000>H2(line-in) fairly often with good results. I did the same with Chris Church's CA-14 and CAFS mics that he has out on loan, also with good results. I've never tried the external mic in myself.
