Title: Neve Portico HPF setting?
Post by: Lil Kim Jong-Il on July 20, 2008, 03:46:25 PM
Does anyone know the frequency setting at the mark between 20Hz and 100Hz on the HPF adjustment dial?

The manual doesn't indicate the value.

Hey Michael,

I think the notch at 9 o'clock is 50 and then 10:30 would be 75.

Thanks Ned.

I've been afraid of running the HPF.  I used if for split subs at panic last night when I was worried about getting too much bass and the results were pretty good.

I ran it for the first time two weeks ago for Moe in Portland.  We were 25-30 feet back and it really helped.

I find the Portico to add a bit more punch to the mix than a V3 but it is tight as hell. The sweepable HPF is great so you can really dial it in according to the situation.

What setting did you use for .moe?

I ran the 414 subs and no hpf for a mule fob recording and the bass was overwhelming.  I remember the bass at portsmouth being heavy for panic last few times I was there so I thats why I tried it.  I have always run dfc floor and the bass kicks hard down there.

I listened to the panic recording in the car and on grado headphones I can hear a very balanced sound with punchy and tight bass.  I went to my usual spot for part of second set and the bass was clearly stronger right there than in the second row of seats where we were running so I'm not sure how much of the difference was hpf and how much was position.  I probably could have run a little more aggressive but I'm very satisfied with what I got.

I ran the 140's and had it set to 75hz and then the 41's the next night and had it at 50hz.

Low end is still very present in both recordings.  Any clue what the slope is?  6db per octave or 12?

From the manual... 12db per octave.
