Title: Experience with R-09HR and CA 9100
Post by: Dede2002 on July 23, 2008, 04:03:11 PM

I'd really like to hear from anyone running this gear about Rec Levels on the R-09HR.
Months ago I've heard that the best set up would be like 35 on the R-09HR using the CA 9100 to provide the rest of the gain. Right now, I've been told that it's best to set the
R-09HR at 50.
Comments? Thanks in advance  ;)

So basically what is unity on the R-09HR?

Was always a mystery on the R-09.

Like I said, the last info I have is the 50 Rec Level. I´m not saying I don't trust this info, of course. I just happen to find it strange: I've taped most of my show using 53, 55 or 57 Rec Level, which would make a preamp useless in my case.
Still searching for the magic set up. ;)

I ran at 42 on the one show I've done with this setup & had the 9100 all the way up & got good results.

In the R-09 thread I think most people were saying it was '8' on the R-09, though hardly a consensus.  I haven't noticed any difference with the level at 8 or 30 though.   8)

Not running that exact rig but...

I ran my newly acquired R-09HR the other night and went with the suggested 50 setting.  I ran AKG 460 > w-mod+ UA-5 > R-09HR (line in) and my L/R levels on the UA-5 seemed to be in about the same spot (1/2 - 2/3 volume) as before running into DAT, I think it turned out really nice sounding.  This will be the main question when I call the marketing director at Roland back to give feedback and will report to the board here what he says about unity.

I have been using the default 40 for field recording with a MixPre.
I used to use between 10-12 on the R09 original.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I've read that when it was posted.  ;)
I just want to know about other tapers experiences with this set up (rec level 50 on the R-09HR) and other set ups.
Take care.
