Hey I am currently onsite at a festival
A guy has the recording device above and is getting Error code 38
I get the error with a brand new DAT tape as well as a cleaning tape.
Does anyone know what this code means and is it something that can be addressed in the field ?

I mentioned this to Nicky C aka schoepsnbox since he used to work on D10's and he thought it might be the rotary encoder, but wasn't 100% sure about the code from memory. Unfortunately, it won't record if that's the problem and will require repair. I told Nick about this thread, so maybe he'll chime in.

Per the sony service manual a code 38 is indicative of a supply reel issue. Odds are though if the unit has never been serviced that it probably is due. There is a few common issues with the D10's though after a rebuild are tanks and will run forever.
I have a D10ProII collecting dust on a shelf and would be willing to send it out as a loaner if needed.
Do let me know.
Nick

Thanks for the replies. I will let the owner know
I ended up just running my HD-P2 so he can at least get copies of my stuff.
