Came across this today. Most of it's over my head. But I thought there might be some more technical folks that would enjoy trying to build their own.

Wow, make sure if you check out this article to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on the link to a picture of his recording rig. Check out that crazy stereo mic he built using two AKG ck1 caps (the equivalent to todays ck61's). It's the little black box in the very front of the pic.

That mic is neato!

I have often thought of building/modifying something along those lines myself based on cheapie products like these:

Has anyone used similar mic placement with AT853's or similar?

Or would it be more reasonable to build a little stand that has the caps in X-Y position?

My thought is this: In smaller clubs there are often tables on slightly elevated levels in the main performance area or a second level alltogether. Most often this places the table top above the heads of the crowd so why not make a little gizmo to take advantage of that? Lots of cammoflauge options: Hat, pack of cigs with foam window put in or a lady friends handbag. The last one also provides a handy space for the recorder even.

So with this in mind, I would want to make something to stabalize the mics and buffer them from noise due to table bumps - what position would be best?

I made a mini t-bar for my at-933s. I put it on top of a Ultrapod (mini fold-up tripod) for a nice small setup that can sit on a table or attach to a stand, railing, or pillar. Works pretty well!

Since I unloaded some gear (Oktavas, big stand, PS-2, etc) this mini setup is my primary gear and I'm happy with it's versatility.
