Title: LMA 24-bit uploading
Post by: swillysampson on August 05, 2008, 11:40:15 AM
Sorry about asking this question here, as I am sure it has already been answered (tried the search function to no avail). Which setting should one use for LMA 24-bit recordings in CDWave, the standard WAVE or alternate 24-bit format, when saving files? Also is Flac Frontend 1.7 compliant for uploading to the archive? Thanks in advance.

It's been a while since I've used CD Wav, but I recall using the "Alternate format" option.  Pretty sure you want that checked.  I know the LMA is behind on the version on FLAC they're using and it can cause checksum errors.  Not sure on the which versions work...But newer ins't neccessarily better...

yes, definitely use the "alternate 24-bit format" in CD Wave.
and regarding 24 bit FLAC files and the LMA.  The latest version of FLAC is v1.2.1.  the LMA still uses v1.1.x (I forget exactly what they use).  To sum up, the most recent version of FLAC that is compatible with the LMA is v1.1.4.

you say you're using Flac Frontend 1.7, but that doesn't really tell us which version of FLAC the udnerlying code uses.  When you encode, a little DOS window should pop up, and you can see which FLAC version you have in that DOS window.

Where is the "alternate format" option in CD Wav?

Thanks!

It is a check box option when you go to save the files.
