Post by: waltflanagansdog on December 15, 2003, 03:26:22 PM
In wave format?  Or does one have to get the 20GB to record live shows with?

Thanks

There's a thread in the Archival Info section addressing audio file format / file size relationships.

Alright!  I expected that.

I guess the main question is, are these good enough to use for live recordings, or does one have to purchase the JB3?

You MUST purchase a JB3 to record.  The others dont have the capibility.

that's Not true , I own a JB3 and a Jukebox II (20gb version) I would assume the 6gb is the same aswell
The only diffrence I can find in the JB2 and the Jb3 is the Firwire compatiblity and a different Batt .
Both offer 16/48 recording option's.

I must warn ya though the Jb2 uses the batt's up pretty fast, so I would suggest building some sort of Batt sled to help ya power it,

and to answer your Original ?. A typical 2-3 disc mule show is a bit over a Gig, so you should be able to tape  a couple show's safely without having to upload them,

Per the NomadWorld JB2 specs (http://www.nomadworld.com/products/Jukebox2/specs.asp), it only has a USB 2.0 (backwards compatiable) file transfer interface - no optical input, no analog input, no recording functionality.  Perhaps the specs or wrong or I'm misinterpreting them.

I saw this on the 6GB unit:

**1 stereo minijack line input for recording **

Would this be suitable for live shows, or does the "minijack" suck for recording?

if your on a Budget , Jukebox 6gb is the way to go Vs JB3 or a cheap DAT , i would though suggest if your going to do much recording to get the jb3 , just for the batt issue. otherwise ya could live with the USB upload's.

get a jb3 for heavens sake! dont use a nice pre/ad (ua5) and then send an analog signal to your recorder

the Input jack on the Jb3 is the same as the jb20gb, Trust me I have both here in front of me,

Do you have the 20gig version of the JB3?  IOW, yall are talking about the same firmware, different size hard drive?

Still not sure of which device you speak - gimme a link to the NomadWorld.com page? - but odds are very high this particular analog input (minijack) will suck for recording.

Here is one I found on ebay.  Specs are halfway down.

the problem with the old jukebox is that it doesn't accept a digital input.  the A>D inside the nomads leaves something to be desired, thus the need for a digital input.  trust me, save your $ and get something you won't get sick of in 2-3 months, the upgrade bug is a bitch.

Lo and behold, the Jukebox C does in fact do line-in recording - I stand corrected.  But I still bet it sounds like ass.  Haven't used it, though...   ???  Ditto what Chase said.

a LOT, depending on how Mrs. Woodchuck treated him last night.

(rim shot)

But SERIOUSLY,  6 GB will hold about 9 hours of stereo 16 bit 44.1 KHz WAV audio.  Generally, 1GB = 1.5 hours.  One hour of WAV is roughly 620 Megs.

But YOU WANT THE JB3..... so you get 30 Hours and optical input.  The only reason anyone here uses the JB3 is because it has an optical s/pdif input.  If it didn't, nobody would be even talking about Nomads.
