Title: Sony DMX-P01 mixer and A/D
Post by: flintstone on September 05, 2008, 01:18:47 AM
The B&H Photo Video guide to video gear just arrived, and I was paging
through the two volumes looking for new stuff when I came across the
Sony DMX-P01.  It's a mixer with four channels of analog (mic or line)
inputs, and two channels of analog or digital output.  The spec sheet is
stellar.  The unit can be powered by AA batteries, or an external DC source.
Street price is about $2500, not completely unreasonable for a pro-quality
4 channel mixer.

Read more about the DMX-P01 here

I see online that Sony introduced this mixer in 2002.  I'm surprised that
I can't find any mention of it in the TS forums.  Does anyone have any
experience with the DMX-P01?

I think it was discontinued for a while and now they're making a new model with the same serial number??? ???

I haven't seen any evidence to this, all units out are the legacy product from 2002/2003.
There was one useful thread here some years ago:

The weak spot seems to be battery life: 5hrs provided P48 is not used. Probably even less IRL.

BTW, there's a unit on ebay for $1250 BIN:

Looks like a bargain to me, if you don't mind schlepping around 2.2 kg + external battery.

you can get one new for around $1600 as sony has stopped production. i do own one and have found it to be my favorite mixer. weak phones out is the only weakness. superbitchin battery tray - unit comes w/ two and they are hot swappable. lovely sound, everything is on the front panel, can be run in the dark by touch, filters/settings/etc can be changed on the fly with no audible glitches. 24/48 or 24/96 digi out. can be fed by another digital device and the digi bus will lock to whatever that sampling rate is. i've done 24/44.1 as well as a few other odd rates.

i love mine, but have gone to DSD so i cannot support a resampled analog out into a dsd deck, plus my korg has no digi input.
