Title: SmartFTP's Transfer Queue
Post by: T.J. on September 10, 2008, 08:54:31 AM
Can someone explain to me how to use the Transfer Queue option in SmartFTP when tranferring to the LMA? I've looked on their website's help topics and have tried to use it. But, for the life of me I can't figure it out. The LMA constantly times out during transfer and I have to manually start the transfer again. It's getting annoying.

Thanks!

smartftp pissed me off so much that I stopped using it.  I used to have zero issues with it and then lots like you describe.

fireftp in firefox is awesome and so easy to use!  works right inside your browser.

I guess you could call it that.  it's a ftp client for firefox that works in your browser.  It's great and easy to use.  opens up a tab of it's own for ftp use.

You have to set your time out/retry at 1-1/2 minutes or more.

Indeed. I just grabbed this add-on last night when I realized that my copy of SmartFTP was no longer valid or free. FireFTP rocks (so far)!

Agreed on SmartFTP.  I swore by it for many many years and finally gave it up a month or so ago.  It used to just work and now it is so bloated.  Ugggh.

As for FireFTP for Firefox I have never been able to get it to work consistently.  I have tried so many times and it just always ends in frustration.

Right i'm trying out FlashFXP and so far so good.

what kind of problems?  I had a few issues with files not transferring (say one track out of the show) with a old version.  no problems with the updated one.

you can set up multiple accounts etc.  I have one for archive saved with my login and password.  just have to change the archive addy each time.

Going off of memory here.    I remember the biggest problem I had was that once connected to a site (IA was one) it would connect but I was unable to scroll through remote directories because the program would just hang and eventually time out.  Once I was finally was able to get a directory listing or change directories I was usually unable to transfer files.  Again it would hang and then timeout.   Several occasions that I was able to transfer it would get a file or two or three in and then again hang and timeout.

I had emailed a couple of times with the author and kinda always got the same type of response.  "Lots of bugs, i'm working on it"  When a good friend said he was having similar problems I decided to drop it and moved forward with FlashFXP.   My thought was that i'd maybe pick FireFTP back up a little further along in development.  FileZilla to me is just a mess of a program.

Which version of FireFTP are you running Gordon?

like I said I use to have some issues but most everything is worked out.  every now and then it hangs up but simply disconnecting and reconnecting solves it.   I'll start a upoad before bed and it'll be finished and still connected when I wake up.

I'll have to check what version.  I know I let firefox check for updates and have installed a lot for fireftp in the last month or two.

I have used SmartFTP and swore by it to for many years. Well, it was being a PITA and I switched to FireFTP and ran that for a year+. But it was VERY INCONSISTENT. I would manually ahve to transfer 3-4 tracks at the end thatn it just wouldnt UL ??? Switched back to SmartFTP bout 4 months ago and its been rock solid. Not to mention the 3x more speed I get w/ SmartFTP :)

Same story for me as many.  SmartFTP for years but then a couple months ago, they changed it to be a 'pay for' program.  Since then I've been limping along with various other ftp clients basically just using their free trial periods when I need to upload something.  So thanks for all the suggestions folks.  Been looking for something to replace SmartFTP.

i caved in and purchased SmartFTP when they started charging. been using it for years, and i've never had a problem with it. wasn't able to find another program that i liked as much, so to me, the $35 was completely worth it.

FWIW, you can still use the older FREE versions of SmartFTP.  Currently they are on version 3.0.1022     Things started getting bloated when the made the jump to version 3 from version 2.

Here's a link to a few version 1.x and version 2.x builds.   http://www.old-versions.net/show/SmartFTP/71/

Install and turn off the auto update so you don't get updated to version 3.
