Title: Card Class
Post by: dave570 on September 15, 2008, 10:22:33 AM
Ok, so what's the big deal about Class 2 vs Class 4 vs Class 6 cards besides speed reading and writing to them?  Are they worth the extra bucks if I have a built in card reader or an external card reader so I don't have to use USB to download recorded files?  From a taping perspective, would I notice a difference in capacity or reliability?

I own both Class 4 and Class 6 cards and haven't noticed any difference.  Class 4 is getting cheaper so why spend the extra money if you don't have to (although getting a higher class wouldn't be a bad thing).  Both have been equally reliable (i.e work flawlessly provided I bring enough memory for the job at hand), FWIW I use Kingston SD cards and usually record in 24/44.1.

In photography, there is a difference in multiple shooting speed. In audio recording, I can see no advantage. If the card works in my recorder, I let price and size determine my purchase. ;D
