Title: Laptop Digital audio input (for dat transfers)

What are people using as digital input to laptops, now that they are phasing out the PCMCIA slot on most units?

          I have been using my 744T for transfers, bt I'd prefer to go back to the dat > input card > laptop and keep the mileage off the 744T .  I have hundreds of dats to transfer and am shopping laptops...

          I have a VX pocket set-up, but am hesitant to get a new laptop til I figure this out.

You didn't mention what platform, but all of the Mac laptops (except the Air), have optical i/o built in.  These are intel boxes, so you could run Mac/Windows/Linux on them.  I'm not sure about how the i/o works under Linux, though.  New ones can be had for around $1000, and there are plenty of options for used models for significantly less, and on par with current specs found in most PCs.
