Title: T-Bar/Mounts...
Post by: Liquid Drum on October 12, 2008, 06:01:01 PM
I've been looking at the mounts/bars on Soundpros and wondered if anyone has the following?

http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-DTS-12

Would a pair of AT933/CMC-8 clip on each end (I'm worried about the thickness of the metal, as the clips only open so far)?

Also, I'm trying to work out what it actually inlcudes for the $7.99. Looks to me like just the t bar that screws onto a mic stand and you don't get the AT mounts. Am I right?

Thanks,
Simon.

I have recently switched to Humbug's method of a plastic ruler cut down for DIN with a hole drilled in the middle to secure it to a mic stand for my CA mics.

Seems to work pretty well.

Dave.

Simon,

I am checking with Chris to see if he has those AT mounts and if so, for how much.  I'll let you know when I get a reply.  Remember to use your TS discount at Soundpros to make the order cheaper.

I have a pair of MM-HLSC-1 (Sennheiser mke40), not sure if they are the same diameter as yours.  Anyway, when i got them I got a lame mount for SP.  It had some flexible bar with a AT8415 shock mount and you had to use the alligator clips to attach them on to the flexible bar, not very secure.  So i took the mics to home depot and got some pvc tubing in the plumbing department and made this DIN bar.  I had to wrap the bottom of the mics with some gaff tape as you can see in the picture.  Now i use my DIY bar with the AT8415 and it works fantastic and is pretty low profile.  Can't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't much.

Here are the AT8438 mounts:

$20 each and it looks like you have to supply your own wing nut to attach them to a T-bar.

Doesn't look like Soundpros sells the mounts separately, but they do have the whole ball of wax for $40:

Yeah, I wasn't bothered about the mounts. Just wanted the vert bar that screws onto a stand. Do you think the SP-CMC-8's would clip onto each end of the bar?

I always liked this mount

The windscreens act as shocks & you can bend it into any configuration.

I'd e-mail Chris and see what he says about the thickness of the bar and if the clips will attach.  I think the clips would work, but I don't have that bar and have this:

The SP-CMC-8's don't fit very snug within the windscreens, but I have 853's and those are a much more snug fit.

Simon,
if you PM me your email, when I get home tonight I'll send you photos of the T-Bar/mounts I have from SP...I believe they are compatible with the 943s. They work very well.

I have this exact setup (SP-CMC-8 and the bar/mount combo).  I have the 14.5-inch bar and use the AT mounts, but the clips that came with the mics would work fine with the bar (it's only 3/16" thick).  If anything, the clips that I have seem like they would prefer something even a little bit thicker to bite into.

Sorry, cannot comment on the OP, but do want to mention something regarding tgakidis' post.

If you do want to do something (diy) similiar to what he has, the tubing he is using is 1/2" CPVC. I'm using that same tubing for my own DIY kwon bar to hold my AKG ck91 actives.  Works great!

The tubing itself will run you a little over a dollar for a 5 foot section (that's all they sell), then those 45 degree angle pieces are another .29 each or something. That's less than 2$, plus your time in the basement/garage  building/cutting away!

If fact tgakidis, you might consider cross-posting this in the DIY thread if you haven't already...!
:)

+t's to the OP for starting this thread!
