Title: Mics > UA-5 > Analog > Cannon ZR800
Post by: run_run_run on October 13, 2008, 04:03:28 PM
Will this work okay if I set the levels with the output knob?  Got permission to run Video with a friend for a show.

The ZR800 has an aux 1/8 mic input and you're setting levels and getting your phantom power from the UA-5 so... yeah, that should work.

It's possible but the result won't be very pleasing since you can't turn off AGC on the cam. As far as I know the cam is also missing a level display so it won't be easy to set the ua5 output to the right level to prevent brickwalling of the cam's weak internal adc...

Here's a link to that camera's manual, in case you don't have one. It may have some technical info.

I would go to run the iriver optical out anyway. Might be the best bet, just run the normal mic in the Camera and line it up latter.

Unless you can disable AGC I would record separately and mix together in post.  It's a bit more effort but the results would be more pleasing.

If you need someone to mix it for I have plenty of experience with this.
