I don't have a camera so that will have to be on someone else, but I want to mic up the captains on each team and record stereo from behind the backstop.
What would be the best way to achieve this?
I have one minidisc recorder and am sure I could find another one or some small dat recorder. Hopefully I
can find my Sony ECM-DS70P and borrow another one. If I can't, I may be in the market for a pair of small
mics that players who would be running around could clip to themselves for good sound. I guess I don't want
to spend the money on a whole wireless system. But I could record the 2 captain-sources on 2 different recorders,
and when I go back and edit the 3 sources (2 captain mono's + 1 behind-the-backstop Stereo...all on diff. drives)
with the video, it should come out right, right? Err minimal editing, or a sh*t ton?

the mics on the players have potential to sound awful if they are running around a lot...which i assume they will, since its kickball...

yeah. So it has to be wireless b/c minidisc will skip in their pockets... hmm... Know of any cheapo wireless systems?

solid state recorder would fix this problem...

Cheapo wireless systems will only introduce interference in your recording unless you're in the middle, end or beginning of some very remote place. radio waves and interference is everywhere now.

What are the cheapest solid state recorders? Zoom h2 @ 129.99?

You could use a MX-100 and long chords to mix 3 sources on the fly. Shameless self promotion

a couple of two hundred foot cords won't be in the way or anything... ::)
