hello,
yes i'm a noob.. go easy!
i was wondering..
what type of battery is in the microtrack 2? nmh, lithium ion..?
i had the unit plugged in for an hour (straight out of the box) then used it (not fully charged).. then i read the instructions to fully charge before using :) was that bad? (who uses batteries with memory any more??
and for down the road.. if the battery goes completely, as in, will not hold a charge, dead, nothing.. will a usb batt. pack still run the unit??
thanks..

Just charge overnight until the power plug shows in the display....you should be ok
As for external power, you cant beat this for the price http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2970

Wow! Wish I had seen that sooner...I bought the Energizer 'Energi 2 Go' for $20 at Office Depot!!! It works great with hq batteries in it but only holds 2AA. Nice info...Thanks!

Best to use rechargeable AAs rather than alkaline disposable batteries
in that four cell battery case. From the Batteryspace page:
"Note: Do not use Alkaline (non rechargeable) batteries as output is >6V
and might damage USB device that cannot support a voltage >6V."
You have been warned!

I've been running AA Energizer Ultimate Lithium (disposable). Their claim is that they last up to 8X longer than Energizer Max ("in digital cameras", says the package). With MT2 fully charged to begin with, I've recorded about 4 hours without the MT2 losing any charge when using these and they still have juice in them. Also, I have used them in my digi camera and managed to go for a really long time without changing. Pretty stout batteries in my experience.

Excellent TS thread discussing MT battery issues using 4 AA cell packs and the 2-AA cell Energizer-to-Go solution at:
