FWIW, I started to go for this but then discovered that the $10 rebate is an 8-week-later mail in rebate, not an instant rebate.

Given that you'd probably never see the rebate, I'm thinking I'll pay $5 more ($84.95) and buy from B&H which will provide the clout behind the purchase, including replacement in case this plastic mount lens has construction problems.

I was just thinking I'd seen them sell used for that price.  I've never had any issues with Amazon.com so the rebate would probably show but it does take a while.

I'm sorry Phanophish...I should have thanked you for the heads up.  That was kinda rude of me because I really did appreciate the heads up...and I did indeed order the lens from B&H this afternoon, so I'm excited to be getting this sweet HIGHLY rated lens for basically almost nothing.

You're right...at $70 it's a no-brainer!  It's just that for me, I ended up just going with my VERY trusted resource in B&H...have never had any problem with them at all, so that's just worth the extra cheese for me.

Anyhow, thanks again for the heads up dude!  It's really appreciated and frankly, seeing your post reminded me to get off my butt and order that lens...and in the process I also ordered the 430ex flash unit!!!   ;)

Have a great weekend!

I also have an Amazon prime account so for me shipping from them is always free which makes them as good or a better deal than many places.  No worries, I order from B&H all the time so I understand your trust in them, they are great.  They are one of just a few decent online photo places that I reccomend and I always tell people that saving a few bucks is not worth getting ripped off.  You will love the 50/1.8.  They are the best bang for the $$ for low light shooting....

Just remember though, that makes your old glass more valuable when you get that lustful eye for the 50/1.4!  I seriously look at the used prices of lenses and think of it more as a rental cost.  There is not much quality glass that can't be owned for 6 months for about $200 or less.
